I spent a big chunk of the week off earning a living – had to go up to DC for a few days. That means no progress on the room. The trip went well. I actually got to sneak in a little climbing at Great Falls. I think one of the guys I climbed with will get me a few pictures that I can post here.
I got back hom on Friday. Saturday we had a big workday in the room. I wrapped up the plumbing without any serious burns. I think I’m done with all the soldering. Then we mixed up a smallish batch of thinset and got a bit of the second row of big tiles up on the wall. It is much harder to put the tiles up on the wall than down on the floor. Gravity really fights the whole process.
Suzanne came back down mid-morning to help us. (Thanks Suzanne!) I was just wrapping up the tile and decided not to mix more thinset. Since we had an extra pair of hands, I decided to throw ourselves at the drywall. The drywall we are using is made for wet and damp areas with all kinds of anti-mold protection. The ‘paper’ on it is actually some kind of sprayed on fibers. The gypsum is chock full of fiberglass. Spending a day working with it is the rough equivilant of rolling around naked in your attic. Itchy itchy.
As I was shaving a piece of the drywall with a rasp I was telling Ivy and Suzanne that the paper on cut drywall can give you a good cut if you weren’t real careful. About ten seconds later I sliced my thumb with a really nasty little papercut from the drywall. Some days you just can’t win.
If you look close at the picture you can see that I need to do a bit of patching around the light box over where the sink and mirror will be. I also need to replace that box with a remodel one that will fix to the drywall. We couldn’t push this one far enough back because of the vent pipe between the studs.
