The Ladder Tournament and the Fall Classic are going to be in Ft. Lauderdale in a week or so. I’ve been checking around. A couple of the best refs won’t be there – that’s a bummer. When the good refs are at a tournament, even the really bad ones do better.
I’ll be there coaching. Plus, I’ll be getting in touch with bunches of people to try to get some more progess done on getting uniform coach education standards defined.
The US Open will be in mid-October in Atlanta. I’ll be there for that one, also. There will be committee meetings and the JA and JF organizational meetings. Plus, there should be some pretty good judo going on.
Schedules are at http://www.usajudo.org/. Just go to the News & Events dropdown and select the calendar.
Below is a picture sequence of the spectacular 81kg competitor from Portugal, Nuno Delgado. He is pasteing Gledrius Karavackas from Lithuania into the mat at the 2004 Otto World Cup in Hamburg. I was standing just over the referees left shoulder watching this one. Even these fantastic pictures don’t do it justice – it was a huge throw. I particularly like that first picture in the sequence. You can see the total commitment it took to produce the throw. www.judophotos.com is the place to see these and hundreds of other great action pictures. Another site, http://worldjudo.org/posters.htm, also has some neat pictures and posters.
