Yep, more demo. Once we started installing the laminate floor, we realized that the old pine wainscotting in the breakfast nook was going to really look bad with everything else new. So we had to pull it out. When we started pulling it out at the windows, we discovered that we would have to also pull and replace the window trim. Oh well, they would have needed at least a painting anyway. This way we can do the priming and most of the painting on nice clean pieces before we put them up.
The flooring will look nice but it is truly a pain in the butt. It is too wide to use my chop saw on and it is a bit awkward to cut with the table saw. I’m going to have to build a ripping sled for it. When it installs in a dry area, there is no need for glue. It just snaps down then you have to pound it sideways a quarter inch to join with the piece next to it. This is moderately hard to difficult to do. When you add the glue for the water protection for a kitchen, you have to bang and bang and grunt and whimper to slot the pieces. I’ve destroyed two of the little plastic guards to hit. The bit you see installed so far only reduced me to tears twice so far. I’m hoping that as I work with it I will figure out the tricks. That probably means that by the time I’m done, I’ll actually know what I should have been doing all along.
Elsewhere in the kitchen, we have finished the taping and first round of mud and sanding on the drywall. We probably need one more round of it before we’ll be done.
