Tom and I ran up for a short visit to Senca Rocks WV over the weekend for a little climbing.
That is a quarter mile long fin of rock that is about two feet wide at the top. I really hate being on top of that thing, but the climbs are fantastic.
We started by climbing Ecstacy – a classic 5.7. The rock was a bit different than anything Tom was used to and it took a bit for him to get into the groove. I've climbed Ecstacy a couple of times and was pretty comfortable. Here is a picture looking up at the first pitch of Ecstacy.
Here is looking at a party climbing over on the Southern Piller.
We then moved over to the super classic, super sustained Triple S – a very hard 5.8. Tom ran out of gas three fourths of the way up and lowered off. I climbed to his high point and then led the rest of the climb. To say we had a tough time would be an understatement. Here is Tom high up on Triple S.
Sunday morning we climbed Green Wall, another classic 5.7. We made it to the very top and then started feeling some stray raindrops. We rappeled down in a pretty good rainstorm. That led to the rope getting stuck on the second rappel. Tom had to batman up the rope to free it. We took longer getting down than we took climbing the silly thing.
Here is a picture of Tom partway up Green Wall.
Here is a view across the highest point on the rock.
In all, we did a fair bit of climbing, but neither of us felt we climbed that well. We had fun anyway. I guess that is the main thing.
