We spent Saturday out on Canyon Lake sailing in the Hill County Yacht Club’s “Jamaican Me Crazy” races. Racing and sailing seem kind of antithetical to me. One is kind of frantic and the other is the epitome of growing with the flow. We have learned, though, that you can learn a lot about sailing in the races. It is kinda like climbing on plastic at an indoor gym will concentrate a lot of effort in a small space so you can go to the real cliff and climb better.
We had fun crewing for Juan, a guy who learned to sail from the same teacher we had for our classes. Juan has a 25′ Hunter that is a bit worn around the edges, but sailed just fine for us.
