New Year, New Desk, New Gig

I finally put a new top on my old desk just in time to start work at a new place. I'll be doing governance, risk, and compliance work now instead of audits and assessments. Basically, I'll get to be on the other side of the table from the auditors and assessors. It will be a nice change of pace for me. I was about to go crazy doing the other stuff.

I think the desk turned out really nice. The old top was black pressed wood and had started really looking shabby. I started making a replacement from some raw maple, but once I had it glued up and ready, it warped. I don't know what went wrong there. I'll turn it into some cutting boards or something. I didn't have time really start from scratch so I snagged a raw edge island top from Home Depot and trimmed it up, refinished it, and put some grommet holes in it.  I can stand at it, sit at my tractor seat stool, or sit in the office chair. Rather than have a riser stand, I put the monitors on arms that let me move the screens wherever I need them. I added a rack below the desktop for all my cables, power cords, laptops, and peripherals. It leaves me a nice clean desk top to work with. My mouse and keyboard will talk to both my personal laptop and my my work one. Right now I have it set up so that one monitor is dedicated to my personal and the other is for work. I may adjust that in the future so that I can have them both on each as needed.

I had a couple of weeks off between the old job and the new. No sailing, but managed a couple of bike rides. Now that the sun is setting a tad later, we might get in some afternoon sails this month. It will be nice to take the boat out after all the time it spent out of the water.
