Ivy Speaks

Well, let's see the last post was about the front porch. We managed to get that done with fewer problems than expected. I think it looks great. Stan also tackled painting the front door. We decided to use the leftover paint from the porch accent. Stan was planning to use plastic sheets and tape the whole front of the house to protect from wind spreading the paint and use the sprayer to paint…. Silly boy, where would he be without more thought out support. (Yes, I mean me ) I suggested we remove the door, block the opening and take the door to use the same system he used on the accent piece for the porch. I saved us time, mess, and money.

We had some exciting visitors during deer birthing season. Our back has two fenced sections. One encloses the whole back yard then there in an interior one for the dogs. The outer fence does not slow the deer down a bit from jumping in and out. Of course a deer would decide that in-between area was prefect for birthing sweet twins. Before I knew the deer were there, I let the dogs out and both were like rocket ships straight to them. It was early, we weren't quite awake and not dressed or shod and our dogs were going nuts at the fence. I was sure they had trapped a squirrel or 'dillo so I grabbed some shoes and a robe and went hobbling out to save the poor critter my dogs had. At first I only saw the doe and was shocked that she wasn't running away, but was stomping aggressively, then I saw the fawns. Once I got Rylee calm and inside I went to get Tucker. Mamma deer had run off and he had calmed himself. He seemed fascinated by the baby nearest the fence, almost touching it's nose with his.

We kept the dogs in all day and watched for mom to move the babes to a safer location. She came back quickly for the first but it was hours before she retrieved the second. I was worried that it would be left behind. Hopefully they all made it to safety.

We had a couple of nice sails. Once, we took our boat out with a boat neighbor that we had sailed with before. It was lots of fun. He was happy to share his knowledge and I didn't have to play deck monkey for the day.

Lake levels are inches short of historic lows. It is so sad to see.

Lake

We have not been in the water at all for several months. The weather has been hot, too windy, not enough wind, or too crowded with the low water levels for our enjoyment. Hopefully that will change soon, I know our boat wants to play.

We have done some boat maintenance. We worked on the never ending, all important automatic bilge pump.  Pulled the old window shades and bought material to make new ones.  Our friend Phil was telling how much he liked not having life lines on his boat. Since we need to replace ours, we decided to just remove them and the stanchions for a while and see if we liked it better without.

Stanchions

Stan has been hard at work building us a corner bench seat and table. We had a corner seat when we were in K-Town in Germany and always said that when we had a place where one would work that we would have one again.  The bench is finished, provides lots of storage and is really pretty.

Table

The table is almost done. I am very excited to have it all put together. I think it has all turned out wonderfully.

On a more personal note, Stan's shoulder began to really hurt again and he went in for a cortisone shot. The last one was about a year ago which was six months longer than the doctor expected it to help. Hopefully, this one will last as long.

I had a pleasant few visits with the oral surgeon for a molar implant. All I will say is thank goodness it's almost over and the meds they gave me did wonders to relax my back and shoulders.

Okay, I think that is it for this post. Take care and be happy!
