It's me again and not 6 months late. I'm doing great.
Covid 19 was announced the same week that Mom passed. Selene and her family were in Ecuador for the Christmas holidays with Leo's family. Stan was also traveling for work. It was pretty touch and go if they would all be able to get home with all the flights being cancelled. The Virus has wrecked havoc on everyone . I'm not going to get into the politics or science of it all, but the terrible death tolls, enforced masks, closed businesses, fear, isolation, food shortages, kids falling behind in school caused a nightmare of confusion. No one really knew what to do or how long it would last or who to believe. We are all still hurting from the results.
Some time in February we were rear-ended by a drunk kid on a Sunday morning. It banged up the bumper a bit and we expected to just exchange insurance info. But once he got out of his vehicle, we could tell he was a little disoriented and slurring his words we originally thought he might be injured and called the police and EMT. Before they arrived we believed he was intoxicated. He could not pass the field sobriety test and was arrested. His insurance paid to replace our bumper and we pretty much forgot all about it until the sheriff came to the house recently to deliver a summons to court about the accident. This week, I received a call from the court officer saying that at this time it was not going to court but it could be brought up again at a later date if a plea bargain wasn't accepted. I guess we'll see where it goes.
Stan and I went on a overnight camping trip to Hill Country State Park in Bandera. We had been before and enjoyed the hiking and the isolation.
There were two trails into the camping area & we chose the harder one for the hike in. The hike is not strenuous but is a bit rough, Stan felt weak and out of breath the entire hike in. By the time we arrive he was really feeling bad. He tried to help set things up and wanted to take a short walk but he had no energy. I realized he was running a fever so I fed him and he went to bed before dark. He slept fitfully and ran a fever all night. It was pretty rough. When morning finally came, I packed up, loading as much into my pack as I could take and we headed out. Of course we chose the easier trail out, even then we had to stop and rest several times. I was really concerned Stan could not make it to the parking area. As we got closer to the truck, I took my pack and walk/jogged to the truck and left my pack then headed back for Stan. He had walked only a very short way but was dizzy when I got back to him. I took his pack and we eventually made it to the truck. It was a long drive home and he remained sick a few more days. We now wonder if it was Covid but we'll never know as he never went to a Doctor.
There was only three other major things that happened in 2020. I'll write those up for the next post. See you soon!
